Ingredients, Supplies and Equipment for Natural Soap, Bath, Body, and Spa Products

The tools and ingredients needed for making your own natural soap, bath, body and spa products are very simple and most probably reside in your kitchen already.

Although the making of all natural soap bath and beauty products itself is not hard or complex, a thorough understanding of the ingredients and the processes will insure consistent success with all your homemade recipes.

Always use clean sterilized containers, equipment and utensils . Try your best to use only wholesome therapeutic ingredients in all your natural soap bath body and spa products. Organic, cold pressed and unrefined oils and butters are the best to use as they still contain most if not all of the nutrients nature intended us to use.

If possible make sure that your Herbs and Botanicals are organic and fresh. If you can't use fresh and organic at least make sure that you use dried herbs and botanicals that are free from pesticides and chemicals. Also be careful to use herbs and botanicals that are not considered irritants or potentially dangerous.

When adding Colorants to your natural soap, bath body and spa products, make sure that they are FDA approved for the specific purpose that you are using them.

Your work area is also important for success; the kitchen is the perfect place for making all your beauty products as it is convenient with ample space and hot water, as well as outlets and a stove. Make sure that there is good ventilation in your work area as many of the Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils you will be working with are quite fragrant in their undiluted form. Also set aside the utensils that you use for your natural soap, bath body and skin care products, use them specifically for that purpose.

Most important of all make sure that you are uninterrupted while making your natural soap and spa products. Some of the ingredients in their raw form such as lye are harmful and having pets or children underfoot while using these ingredients can lead to disaster. Also make sure you keep a log or formulation book, write down everything you do right after you have done it, and everything you have put into your personal skin care products including amounts and at what stage, that way if something should go wrong you can look back and figure out why. Best of all if you recipe goes right you can look back and recreate it.

Don't be intimidated by the number of ingredients you can use --it just emphasizes what a large variety of products that you can make.

All the ingredients on the next few pages will also have their INCI name included if known. The INCI name is needed when labeling your products for resale.
